Rock wall gardening with wishes

It was a rainy weekend but we were able to go outside here and there to do our yard chores. 

We moved in our home in December 2006. I thought putting in a yard would be easier and would show results so much quicker.....not so much.

I guess it's been about five years since we started planting. This is the first year I feel like everything is really taking off and I'm even able to grab a few plants here and there to add to our flower beds in the back. So exciting!

We have a little nook under our front patio that we planted a white flowering Dogwood tree, along with an assortment of flowering bushes and ground covers. It's also home to the sweet little fountain that Dan and Jake surprised me with for Mother's Day last year. We've been throwing pennies in making lots of wishes.

The close up photo of the heart shaped leaves, is a Redbud tree. We transplanted it from our front lawn to a place that gets more sun and less water. It's doing so much better. I'm really hoping next spring I get to see the spring blooms I keep reading about. 

We've also been working in the back yard on our patio area. I'm wishing for a cottage type feel. A peaceful little nook that is private with lots of pinks, whites, yellows and blues.

Only two-in a half more days of work :) Our vacation is almost here!

Pretty little spring....

Hello :)

What a pretty little Mother's Day weekend we had. Aaron and Jess took us all to see Iron Man III, if you're in this family, you of course have to dig super heroes. 

We went tree shopping on Saturday, to replace a few of our trees that didn't make it this winter. Just out of no where, the yard is filled with beautiful flowers. Fall will always be my favorite, but I sure love Spring too.

We took my mom to dinner on Sunday and played outside until dark. Just a perfect little day.

Word has it, a gnome moved into the whiskey barrel.

I think he'll really like it here.

Tree Walk........

The little park by our house has old amazing fun to climb trees.

When I was little, I spent most of my days in The Mattis's cherry tree. I'm not sure if they minded much, but probably when I would sneak some of their fruit leather they were drying in the backyard.

I would sometimes hear, "Shelly, does your Mother know you're over here?" 

Embarrassing to think now!

I finally made Julia Child's Chocolate Almond Cake. Absolutely the most incredible dreamy cake we've ever had! Really it was. I think we'll make it again this weekend. At first I thought, good grief, so many steps. But really, it was easy easy :)

I have Friday Crafty Girls' Nite tomorrow.....very fun. Linda has dinner and a cute craft planned. I will share that with you this weekend. Maybe this will help jump start me back into crafting. I've been really into Project Life and having so much fun with our walks and adventures at the Farm. So this leaves very little time for crafting. I miss it so much! Especially making dolls, I see a few new dolls in the shop very, very soon!

Farm Love

Our friend Dave, was nice enough to let us visit his farm again. This time, to show Jake around. Last time we were there, Jake was at a birthday party and missed it. Boy, did I hear about that when he saw all of the chicken photos!

Jake absolutely wants to live on this Farm. I guess, since we won't be buying a farm any time soon, really probably never. We'll just have to give our backyard a little bit of cottage meets farm life. I think I can do that! Oh, and would it be weird to add a small putting green?

Probably......but I think that would be cool. I've been looking through way too many cottage gardening and landscaping magazines I think :)

Next Spring, we're going to attempt to get a few chickens. I think.

Dave lives on a 200 year old farm. Most of the area around him is now new homes and businesses. I really wish sometimes things would stay the same, but I guess that's how it goes. When we built our home, I'm sure the subdivison was once a well loved farm. They are also building lots of houses behind us, what was once the country---ain't no more.
