The Raingutter Regatta Pirate Ship

 Jake's scout troop raced boats they designed a few weeks ago for the annual Raingutter Regatta.

Jake decided on a pirate ship design. I used my Silhouette to cut out the skulls and flag for him. I LOVE that awesome machine :)

He painted his boat black and used a dowel to hang the flag. For the flag, we used card stock and wrapped the vinyl flag around to make it more stable. 

Then Jake added a lego piece and it was finished. One of the fastest craft projects on record.

 They used straws to move their boats a little closer to the finish line. It was also great that it was a windy day.

 They ended the scouting year with an awards ceremony, dinner and lots of treats.

Pet Rock Bugs

Tuesdays are one of our favorite days around here. Probably because it's my day off and we usually try to do something fun.

This time we decided to paint a few pet rocks. Just a few lady bugs and some type of green unknown bug. I think that one is my favorite :)

I remember making tons of pet rocks when I was a kid. Sometimes it's good to just keep it simple and bring back some of those lazy day kid crafts.

The Lava Lamp

We've been keeping busy each day with various Summertime projects. Fridays are usually science day. Jake absolutely loved this one! Such a fun little science experiment.

Things you'll need

Plastic water bottle

Food coloring

Antacid tablets

Baby oil

Water

We used this great  video tutorial from "Our Best Bites" to help us along.

Jake loved it so much, he just about used the entire box of antacids :)

Summer Learning

We just hung around for the first few weeks of summer vacation.

I know I LOVED my summer vacations and just wanted to play with my friends and run wild.

But......I really think it's important Jake doesn't forget things he's learned and that he's ready for 1st grade in a few months.

So we grabbed a few summer reading and math workbooks, stickers, stuffed our pencil box with pencils, crayons, erasers and scratch paper and so it begins. (We found our workbooks at Barnes and Noble.)

One of Jake's favorites so far is estimating. Of course....because this involves treats.

Sometimes, if a letter is giving him trouble---we go right to "Letter School". This app is incredible and has really helped Jake with his writing skills.

We don't spend too long each day with school work. A page of reading, math and a fun creative activity with language arts. Jake is usually finished in about 20-30 minutes. We read a few books each night too.

We never know what new activities are coming up next---(I try not to peek).

Maybe.....adventures, making photo albums, making up stories, drawing, creating cards.......so fun.

Of course......when each month is finished Jake gets a special treat.

In this case.......a visit to Lagoon or Boondock's.

He's so all over that.
