Spring wishes

One of my girlfriends I've worked with and known for almost 30 years, moved into a new place. Since she'll be living in a condo, she had no place for her wishing well. I'm so glad she thought of us. I LOVE how it looks in our backyard.

I think we found the perfect spot around the "Basket of Gold". They only bloom a very short time, but they are one of my favorite flowers in our yard. It seems each year they multiply. I want to stain the wishing well a little deeper color and plant a few flowers in the water bucket. I still have the "fake" flowers that were originally there. 

I'm excited to get going on the yard work and get everything in shape. However, for some reason I don't mind a few dandelions around the wishing well. I think they look pretty around the basket of gold.  I don't wear yellow, but I sure love it in the yard :)

Jake has been taking good care of his chicken girls and dog girls. He's such a kind heart and loves animals. Each day he announces how many eggs we have---Fanny's eggs are always a favorite. Gotta love those Americauna greenish blue eggs.

We painted the coop! I'm so in LOVE with the color. It's called, "Lush Sage", I think it's perfect. We just have a few more touch up spots and trim to add. Then it's time to landscape around the coop and dress it with some window boxes and maybe a "fresh eggs" sign. I have all these ideas in my head---just need to find the time and energy to get started :)

Pick'in Pumpkins

 

This week we went to our favorite fruit and vegetable stop. Jake chose a WARTY pumpkin and for his new little niece Alicia, a baby pumpkin---just like her :)

We already had a few free pumpkins on the porch, but needed a few others for our annual Friday night pumpkin carving contest. 

I found the gather rug at Target, it will also BE fantastic for Thanksgiving.

Now that's a Cabbage!

Jake's class participated in the Bonnie Plants Third Grade Cabbage Program. We didn't plant until late May, but each and every week Jake's cabbage grew and grew.

We weren't exactly sure how to weigh it, so we took it to our local grocery store and they were nice enough to let us use their scale.

Jake's pretty darn proud of his cabbage! He's turning into quite the little farmer :)

Super Cute Garden Markers

 

I'm so excited to have a little herb garden this year. I love keeping the markers the herbs come with but thought this blue wheel barrow garden deserved a little "cuteness".

I used jumbo popsicle sticks, washi tape and my Epson Label maker with clear tape. In just a few minutes, I had adorable garden markers.

I'm pretty sure the Gnome would like a garden marker for his place too :)

Backyard fun

In April, Jake's third grade class received cabbage plants. Jake's been tending to his cabbage in hopes to receive a prize for the largest cabbage! Wish him luck :)

All the neighborhood kids are sure having fun with the new girls in town.

I've been freezing strawberries from our little patch almost everyday! These frozen berries sure come in handy for smoothies. I also freeze lots of bananas ---makes smoothie making so much easier :)

I sure hope the gals don't discover I planted a few wild flower seeds in there!

Maude and Jake.

Lots of purple around our garden gate. I also like to plant Cosmos and Petunias and tuck them in here and there. Pink, white and purple.....a few of my favorite colors for the garden :)

More neighborhood kids enjoying the chickens.

These two have been busy making sure the chicken run is clean. Jake has been filling their food and water containers and keeping the girls very happy. 

The chickens favorite occasional treat is Strawberries. I save the girls a few when I'm freezing them for my smoothies.

What we've learned so far.

It seems no matter how many times we fill and clean their water and food, they somehow always manage in minutes to kick dirt and pine shavings in it.

I've got my eye on one of the galvanized food and water feeders that you can hang. Hopefully this will solve the problem :)
