Just what we've been up to the last few months........

In March we got our baby chicks. Well, five chickens and a Turken to be exact. Jake is having the time of his life with these gals. I sure hope none of them turn out to be roosters. 

With the warm weather, it's been nice getting our yard and garden ready for planting.

I'm going to make a garden and flower journal in the next few weeks. Just one little book that will document what flowers I plant, where they are planted and how well they do in sunny or shady spots. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep a chicken journal as well, my husband doesn't call me a nerd for nothing.

Back in the day

Since I can remember, I've always had a love for old photos.

I would comb through album after album , asking a lot of questions along the way. I wish I would have kept a journal way back then of everything my Dad told me. He shared so many great stories with me. I remember a lot of things, but I hope I'm not forgetting something really great. You know?

I didn't know my grandmothers, they were gone before I was born. I'll always, always wonder what that's like---to have a grandmother. Thank God I had Aunt Ruth. I'm pretty sure I got the best of both worlds-----an amazing aunt and definitely a grandmother to me. 

I've been gathering old family photos and scanning them to use in my scrapbooks. I made the photo collages with the Project Life App. So easy! I used the Cinnamon Edition in the photos above. 

I slipped them into a Simple Stories binder, using a variety of different pocket pages. I'm really excited to use the Simple Stories line, Legacy. I love hybrid scrapbooking, so this will give me some digital and physical elements to work with. This photo album is 6x8, which I think is the perfect size for these types of projects. Some pages will be the full 6x8 photo spread, and others I'll make the collages.

Sometimes, I wish I could just have one day to walk through the city where I grew up, back in the day. When it was still farm land, my grandparents cafe and people walking to catch the train to town.

Well, that was back in the day.........

Recipe journaling

I absolutely love my recipe binder. I thought I would share a few more pictures of the recipes I printed for my binder as well as other hand written recipes I put in my Smash Books.

I used the Simple Stories recipe dividers and album for the recipes I print out, like I shared in this post.

I'm having fun decorating the pages along the way, as I find extra time.

The Butter Pecan Ice Cream recipe and the Lemon Brownies also made it in my Smash Book. This way I can still have a few hand written recipes. I used the Green Smash Book---"Tasty" to journal a few of my favorite recipes. I let the pages guide me to what recipes will fit on the pages. For example; when I saw the lemon page---I knew the Lemon Brownies would be perfect. 

I used my label maker to personalize my Simple Stories binder. I love that thing!

So far I'm loving this and I've even wanted to cook a little more.

Great Great Great!

Boy was it hard to go back to work on Monday. We had such a fun amazing week! 

Last week was my birthday,  so we did a lot of celebrating. We went to Applebee's for dinner and then home for cake and ice cream. I LOVE strawberry filled cake with whipped topping. Dan always finds me the perfect cake.

We hung out with my mom and sisters on Friday. My sister treated us all to shakes at Arctic Circle. Jake loves his Aunties.

On Saturday night, we ate at Rumbi after church and then headed to a college basketball game. Weber State Wild Cats---we WON! Weber State Weber State---Great Great Great. ( I can't get this cheer out of my head). I always forget how much fun it is to go to these games. Our credit union was giving out free tickets. We got there early and scored free t-shirts. Jake of course had waaaaay too much popcorn. 

Sunday, Aaron and Jess came over. Dan made his famous chicken dinner and I whipped up a really time consuming batch of Rice Krispy Treats.....ha!

At the end of each month, I look through all of my photos and make a quick Project Life layout with the app. It just gives me an idea what photos I need to print for the month and helps me along the way.

Pretty purple planner.......

 

 I had a really hard time trying to decide what type of planner I wanted for 2015.

I knew it had to be pretty, functional and have lots of room for doodling or maybe day dreaming.

I've had tons of different Franklin planners since the early 90's. This time, I went for something I could make all my own and do a little journaling and paper crafting inside. I think that a "To Do List", just looks prettier with stickers and washi tape. I also like to tell myself that if it's "pretty", I may get more done.

I went with the Lilac personal size kikki.K planner. It really caught my eye and of course because it was on sale was even better. I've always been a sucker for purple.

This planner is far from finished, still a work in progress. I've been making divider pages by just using the ones included as templates. I've been using my label maker too--which I love.  

I found the calendar pages I'll be using each month at The Handmade Home. Totally awesome and FREE. People like this are so cool :)

I found the address book pages here. I absolutely LOVE them. They have other cute printables too--such a fun site.

I used a telephone post card Aaron and Jess gave me to put on my  "dashboard". It's actually from a book of postcards they got me for Christmas. This one stood out and I immediately knew it matched my planner :) I love it when that happens. I also added a little notebook, charm, butterfly paper clips, stickers and a photo. I adore it! I can't keep my hands off of it. 

I've always been a NERD like that.

Last but not least, the chicken bookmark is from Jake's school. Dan bought it for me at the book fair. He told me I had to have it. It must be because of an old joke I tell him countless times. 

"Why did the chicken cross the road?".

"To get to his lady friend on the other side".

It always makes him smile. (unless he feels sorry for me for telling such a stale joke).
