During berry season in June, I had way more berries than I could use.
Nothing else to do but to freeze them :)
Hull and wash strawberries. I like to work in batches if I have a lot of berries. When you have a nice bowl full, spritz them with fresh lemon juice to keep them fresh and bright red.
When you have your first batch ready, lay them on a cookie sheet. Spread evenly. Place in freezer for about 3 hours.
Remove and immediately place in Seal A Meal bag or freezing method of choice.
As you can see I still have my trusty Seal A Meal from the olden days :) It works like a charm and the bags are still available at your grocery store. I even used the Food Saver brand for this batch :)
Don't forget to label your fruits. Frozen berries will last for about one year if stored properly.
We just pulled one of our bags out last week to make our delicious New Year's Eve drinks, "Hawaiian Guava Strawberry Drink".
They were beautiful, red and flavorful :)
Of course my favorite thing to do with our berries before I freeze them is to make fresh strawberry freezer jam :) YUM!
Just follow the directions on your Pectin box for fabulous easy jam.
